BBMP Reports Record Rainfall in Yelahanka: Bengaluru’s Wettest October Since 1997

Bengaluru: Due to a circulation system at an altitude of 5.8 km in Tamil Nadu, heavy rains have been lashing the state capital, Bengaluru. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Wednesday as well. According to BBMP, Yelahanka’s Chaudeshwari area recorded 15.7 cm of rain between 12 AM on Monday night and 6 AM on Tuesday morning. Vidyaranyapura received 10.9 cm, Jakkur 8.1 cm, Kodigehalli 7.2 cm, and Horamavu areas 7.3 cm of rain. This marks a record rainfall for October in Bengaluru over a 24-hour period, the highest in 27 years.

The last time Bengaluru recorded such heavy rain was on October 1, 1997, when 17.8 cm (178.9 mm) of rain fell. Prior to this, the heaviest rainfall in recent years occurred on October 6, 2017, with 7.6 cm. The new record of 15.7 cm has now surpassed the 2017 rainfall record.
