Hubballi: In a major step toward strengthening Karnataka’s railway infrastructure, the Railway Board has granted approval for the Final Location Survey (FLS) of two important new rail lines under the South Western Railway Zone.
A 162-kilometer route is proposed between Almatti and Yadgir, for which a budget of ₹4.05 crore has been sanctioned for the survey. Another 73-kilometer route between Bhadravati and Chikjajur, passing through Channagiri, has received ₹1.825 crore in funding. In total, these surveys will cost approximately ₹5.875 crore.
This initiative marks a significant first step in the planning and development of key railway projects aimed at enhancing connectivity across the state.
The proposed Almatti–Yadgir line holds strategic importance, as it aims to improve connectivity between North Karnataka and major economic corridors. Almatti is renowned for its dam and hydroelectric power generation and plays a vital role in the region’s agriculture and energy sectors. Meanwhile, Yadgir is a major junction on the Hyderabad–Mumbai rail corridor. Enhanced rail connectivity between these locations is expected to boost regional trade, transport, and resource access.
Similarly, the Bhadravati–Chikjajur route will strengthen intra-state connectivity within central Karnataka. Bhadravati, an industrial town known for its steel and paper industries, will gain direct access to Chikjajur, a key railway junction that connects various parts of Karnataka. This route is expected to facilitate freight movement, industrial growth, and improved passenger services.
