Spanish retail clothing giant Zara recently faced criticism over a children’s t-shirt deemed “sexually suggestive.” The controversy ignited when a London mother, Laura Wilson, shared a video highlighting the shirt, which featured the phrases “The Perfect Snack” and “The Strawberry: A small burst of sweet joy” on the front. The back of the shirt displayed two halves of a strawberry, with a message urging wearers to “Take a bite. A burst of sweet delight, making it the perfect summer snack.”

Wilson, a mother of two, discovered the shirt in the girls’ section of Zara’s Bluewater Shopping Centre store. She expressed her discomfort in the video, noting that the term “snack” is often associated with sexual innuendo. “If you bought this for your child, you need to reconsider,” she remarked.

She described her initial shock at the shirt’s messaging and questioned if she was overreacting. However, after sharing her concerns on TikTok, she found many others echoed her sentiment, calling the garment “vile” and inappropriate for a young child.

In response to the backlash, Zara issued an apology and promptly removed the shirt from both stores and its website. The brand clarified that the use of the word “snack” was not intended to carry any suggestive connotation and was meant to reference strawberries only. “We apologize for any misunderstanding or offense caused,” the company stated.
