Washington, D.C: FBI Special Agent Carjacked in D.C., Investigation Underway

In Washington, D.C., an FBI special agent fell victim to a carjacking at gunpoint near the 1200 block of Constitution Ave., NE, on Wednesday afternoon, reported ABC News.

The agent’s blue Chevy Malibu, which contained body armor and a radio, was stolen, but the agent remained unharmed. Law enforcement swiftly recovered the car, and the incident is under investigation by the DC Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI Washington Field Office, and the Metropolitan Police Department Carjacking Task Force.

Washington, D.C., has witnessed a notable surge in carjackings, exceeding 900 offenses year-to-date, marking a more than 100% increase compared to the previous year. The majority of these incidents involve firearms, with juveniles making up a significant portion of carjacking arrests, reported ABC News.
