Veteran Politician V Srinivas Prasad Passes Away
Mysuru mourns the loss of V Srinivas Prasad, a seasoned politician and former Union Minister, who succumbed to age-related ailments in a Bengaluru hospital during the early hours of Monday. Admitted to Manipal Hospital last week, his health deteriorated, leading to multi-organ failure.
Prasad, marking fifty years in politics, announced his retirement on March 17. However, the onset of the Lok Sabha election saw his residence in Jayalaxmi Puram bustling with political fervor as both BJP and Congress leaders sought his endorsement.
Having contested 14 elections, winning eight, Prasad’s political journey included six victorious Lok Sabha bids from Chamarajanagar. He served as a Union Minister in the A B Vajpayee Cabinet and held the position of Karnataka’s Revenue Minister.
His affiliations spanned multiple parties, starting with Janata Party in 1980, later joining Congress, Janata Dal (United), and ultimately returning to Congress. In 2016, he aligned with BJP after being ousted from Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet.
Survived by his wife Bhagyalakshmi and three daughters – Prathima Prasad, Poornima, and Poonam – his legacy extends to his son-in-law, Devaraj, an IRS officer serving as GST Commissioner (Appeals) in Hyderabad.
The body was brought to his residence at 7:30 am and will be laid at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds in Mysuru at 9 am for the public to pay their respects. A stream of political figures and dignitaries is anticipated to pay homage.
