Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has implemented stringent new regulations for food establishments statewide to enhance food safety and accountability. Chefs and waitstaff are now mandated to wear masks and gloves, while all hotels and restaurants must install CCTV cameras.
In a bid to improve transparency, operators and managers must display their names and addresses prominently.

These measures follow concerns raised during the Tirupati Laddu controversy, where allegations surfaced regarding the use of animal fat and substandard ingredients in food preparation. Adityanath condemned the addition of harmful substances to food, stating that such practices are intolerable.

To enforce these regulations, an extensive inspection campaign will be launched, requiring police verification for all food establishment staff, from roadside stalls to upscale restaurants. Joint teams comprising the Food Safety and Drug Administration, police, and local authorities will oversee compliance.

Additionally, the government plans to amend the Food Safety and Standards Act, mandating eateries to display critical information about their operators and uphold rigorous hygiene standards. Adityanath emphasized that public health is paramount and that offenders will face severe consequences as Uttar Pradesh strives for a cleaner, safer dining environment.
