Union Finance Secretary TV Somanathan to Take Charge as Cabinet Secretary
The Central government has appointed TV Somanathan, currently the Union Finance Secretary, as the new Cabinet Secretary for a two-year term, effective from August 30.
Somanathan, a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, will also serve as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat until he officially assumes his role as Cabinet Secretary, according to an official announcement by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Prior to his current role as Finance Secretary, Somanathan has held several key positions, including Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, and Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
In addition to his extensive administrative experience, Somanathan is academically accomplished, holding a PhD in Economics. He is also a qualified Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant.
