The UK, in collaboration with the US and international partners, will establish a maritime corridor to directly deliver aid to Gaza, announced British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

Emphasizing the “desperate humanitarian need” for Gaza’s 2 million residents, Cameron revealed the joint effort with the US and Italy. President Joe Biden mentioned plans to set up a floating pier off Gaza’s coast.

British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps stated that the UK Armed Forces, already supporting aid deliveries by land and air, aim to expedite the process. The initiative seeks to address the dire situation caused by Israel’s offensive following a Hamas incursion, resulting in over 30,800 deaths, 72,000 injuries, and extensive destruction.

Gaza’s population faces internal displacement, with 85% affected and acute shortages of essentials. The UN reports 60% of Gaza’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, prompting an interim ruling in January urging a halt to genocidal acts and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Gaza’s civilians.
