U.S. Homeland Security Deports Indian Immigrants in Effort to Curb Illegal Migration
Washington, DC: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deported a group of Indian immigrants illegally residing in the United States on Tuesday, utilizing a large-frame charter flight as part of its efforts to deter irregular migration. In a press release dated October 25, DHS emphasized its commitment to enforcing immigration laws, stating that “Indian nationals without a legal basis to remain in the United States are subject to swift removal.”
Kristie A. Canegallo, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, warned potential migrants against believing smuggler claims about remaining in the U.S. legally. The exact number of deported individuals has not been disclosed.
Since June 2024, DHS has repatriated over 160,000 individuals through more than 495 international flights to over 145 countries, marking the highest removal rate since 2010. Additionally, encounters at the southwest border have decreased by 55% since the implementation of the ‘Securing the Border Presidential Proclamation’ and associated regulations.
