Two Arrested for Assaulting Female Doctor at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital
Mumbai Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged assault and mistreatment of a female doctor at Sion Hospital, a civic-run facility also known as Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College.
The incident occurred when the doctor was tending to a patient in the casualty ward, cleaning blood from the man’s ear. According to police officials, the man began shouting at the doctor, leading to a heated argument. The situation escalated when three visitors—two women and a man—assaulted the doctor, prompting the hospital staff to call for police assistance.
The accused face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.
This assault comes amid a nationwide outcry regarding the safety of medical professionals, particularly following the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
