Trump Needs Only 27 More Electoral Votes—Can Harris Catch Up?
Washington, DC: With Donald Trump gaining ground in the US Presidential race, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has opted to cancel her election night address. “You won’t hear from the vice president tonight, but she will speak tomorrow,” confirmed Cedric Richmond, co-chair of Harris’s campaign, during a press briefing in Washington.
Trump’s recent wins in critical states, including North Carolina and the hotly contested battleground of Georgia, have significantly narrowed Harris’s chances of a comeback in what has proven to be a tense and polarized election. The 78-year-old Trump appears well-positioned to reclaim the White House.
In addition to Trump’s surge, the Republican Party has taken back control of the Senate, flipping two seats previously held by Democrats—an outcome that boosts Trump’s political momentum. Harris, meanwhile, has struggled to make inroads in key areas where the Democrats had hoped to gain traction. As a result, her campaign cancelled a planned watch party in Washington, DC.
Jason Miller, a Trump campaign spokesperson, described the mood at Trump’s base in Florida as “optimistic” as favorable results continue to come in. Financial markets have reacted swiftly, with the US dollar rising and Bitcoin reaching new highs, reflecting investor confidence in a potential Trump win.
So far, Trump has captured major Republican-leaning states, including Florida and Texas, bringing his electoral count to 243 against Harris’s 194. With 270 electoral votes required to secure the presidency, both sides remain focused on the remaining undecided states as the race reaches its final stretch.
