The death toll from Tropical Storm Trami in the Philippines has tragically increased to 90, with at least 36 individuals still unaccounted for, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The storm, which struck earlier this week, caused significant flooding and landslides, affecting more than 5.7 million people across 16 regions in the Southeast Asian nation.

Trami is the 11th typhoon to impact the Philippines this year, wreaking havoc primarily on Luzon Island, especially in the Bicol and Calabarzon regions, as well as in central and southern parts of the country. Search efforts continue for the 36 missing individuals, who are feared to be either trapped under landslides or swept away by floodwaters.

Additionally, the Philippine Coast Guard reported that over 8,000 people have been stranded at various seaports due to the storm’s aftermath. Despite the storm having exited the Philippines on Friday, many disaster victims are still in dire need of food and clean water. Some residents who were forced to evacuate during the height of the flooding began returning to their homes as the waters receded on Saturday.

The storm has caused extensive damage, with infrastructure losses estimated at 825 million pesos (approximately $14 million USD) and agricultural losses around 1.432 billion pesos (about $24.5 million USD). On average, the Philippines experiences around 20 typhoons annually, making this region particularly vulnerable to severe weather events.
