Tragic Discovery: Missing Indian Student Gurashman Singh Bhatia Found Dead in East London
The body of Gurashman Singh Bhatia, a 23-year-old Indian student who was reported missing after a night out with friends on December 14, has been discovered by police divers in a lake in the Canary Wharf area of east London. The Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom is now seeking information to reconstruct Bhatia’s last movements.
The discovery was made following extensive investigations by officers, involving the analysis of CCTV footage, interviews with witnesses, and scrutiny of phone and financial records. Water searches in the South Quay area led to the recovery of a body believed to be that of Bhatia.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a BJP leader, brought Bhatia’s case to the attention of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Bhatia, an MSc student in Digital Finance at Loughborough University, had been missing since December 15.
Expressing condolences, Sirsa said, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of GS Bhatia… May Waheguru give strength to his parents mourning this profound loss.”
Detective Chief Superintendent (DCI) James Conway, overseeing local policing in Canary Wharf’s Tower Hamlets area, stated that Gurashman’s death is considered unexpected, with no indications of suspicious circumstances. Nevertheless, the investigation will be thorough. Conway urged anyone who saw Gurashman in the Marsh Wall area on the evening of December 14 or early hours of December 15 to come forward, describing the outcome as “extremely tragic” for the missing persons inquiry.
