Tragic Demise of Dasara Icon: Arjuna, the Majestic Elephant, Falls in Brave Battle
Hassan: In a heartbreaking turn of events, Arjuna, the revered sixty-three-year-old elephant that graced the Dasara procession with the golden howdah, met a tragic end in a valiant struggle during an elephant capture operation near Yeslur in Sakaleshpur on Monday.
The Forest Department, in its ongoing mission to capture troublesome tuskers in the Sakaleshpur, Alur, Belur, and Yeslur ranges of Hassan, faced an unexpected and sorrowful incident. Arjuna, a symbol of grace and strength, was attacked by a wild tusker during the operation, succumbing to injuries inflicted in the stomach, as per initial reports. The devastating encounter has compelled the department to halt the capture operation.
Arjuna, who magnificently bore the weight of the 750-kg howdah during the Dasara procession for eight consecutive years until 2019, had become an integral part of the annual celebration. As he reached the age of 60, the majestic elephant transitioned from the grandeur of the Dasara festivities to participate in various elephant capture operations.
This loss has cast a somber shadow over the Forest Department and the community, marking the end of an era for Arjuna. His legacy as a symbol of strength, nobility, and service will forever be etched in the memories of those who witnessed his regal presence during the grand Dasara celebrations.
