Teacher Murdered in School After Rejecting Marriage Proposal
In a tragic incident, a woman teacher at the Government High School in Mallipattinam, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, was fatally attacked in her classroom by a stalker on Wednesday after she rejected his marriage proposal.
The victim, M. Ramani (26), a resident of Chinnamanai village, was conducting a class when the accused, P. Madhan (30), entered the room and stabbed her in the neck. Ramani collapsed in a pool of blood and was rushed to the government hospital in Pattukottai by her colleagues. However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Initial investigations revealed that Madhan, who hailed from the same village, had visited Ramani’s home with his family days earlier to propose marriage. Following her rejection, a heated argument ensued between their families. Despite repeated attempts by Madhan to convince her, Ramani firmly declined. Enraged by her refusal, Madhan committed the crime, according to police reports.
The Sethubavachatram police swiftly arrested Madhan, and an investigation is ongoing.
Reacting to the shocking murder, Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi condemned the violence against teachers, stating such acts are intolerable. He expressed heartfelt condolences to Ramani’s family, her students, and her fellow educators, promising strict legal action against the perpetrator.
