Moscow: The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has vacated his position and left the country after initiating a peaceful transition of power.

In its statement, the ministry did not disclose Assad’s current whereabouts and clarified that Russia was not involved in the discussions regarding his departure.

The ministry also confirmed that Russia’s military bases in Syria have been placed on high alert as a precautionary measure, although there are no immediate threats to their security.

Moscow emphasized that it is maintaining communication with all Syrian opposition factions and called for restraint from all parties to avoid violence during this transitional phase.
