Syed Azeempeer Khadri Will Withdraw His Nomination: DK Shivakumar
Bengaluru: Stating that the dissidence over Congress ticket in Shiggavi had ended, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar today said that the dissident candidate Khadri would withdraw the nomination.
Addressing the press after holding a meeting with the dissident candidate Khadri at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said , “Khadri will withdraw his nomination on October 30. The party will give him a suitable position.”
“He discussed his concerns with me. He has been promised a suitable position in the party. I can’t disclose the promises made in view of the Model Code of Conduct. He will withdraw his nomination and work for the party. Khadri is with us,” he said.
“Khadri must have been given a ticket in the last election itself. The party will never forget his sacrifices and he will be compensated with a suitable position,” he added.
“Khadri is an honest person and is committed to the secular philosophy of the party. Minister Zameer Ahmed, MLA Nazeer Ahmed and Ismail Tamatagar played an important role in convincing Khadri to withdraw his nomination. He also held a discussion with the CM in the morning. We will hold a discussion with Shiggavi leaders tomorrow. Everyone will work for the party,” he noted.
When pointed out that Khadri had not agreed to back out, he said, “We need to take the opinion of all local leaders. There is no dissidence now. We need to talk to his followers too and we will invite all of them to Bengaluru.”
Disciplined soldier of Congress party
Addressing the press, Sayed Azeempeer Khadri said, “I had told the party leaders that I would certainly win the election this time if given a ticket. The party leaders have told me that it was the decision of the High Command. I will discuss this with my followers and make them meet the CM and the DCM. I will follow the Party decision.”
“I am a disciplined soldier of the party. I have contested four times from the Congress party and lost by a narrow margin. I lost one election by a mere 787 votes. I have built the party from grassroots. The Party is important for me and we will defeat the BJP and ensure Congress victory,” he recalled.
“When I met the CM in the morning, he told me that he will protect my interests. DK Shivakumar had told me while inducting me into the party that the constituency was his responsibility. I can’t forget the Rs 4.5 crore grant given by Shivakumar during SM Krishna’s government for the development of Moti talab in Savanur,” he said.
Khadri who was upset following denial of the party ticket to contest byelection from Shiggaon constituency, at the last moment he filed a nomination as a rebel candidate on the last day of the nomination filing.
