Surpur Congress MLA Raja Venkatappa Nayak Passes Away at 67
Kalaburgi: Senior Congress leader and sitting MLA from Surpur constituency, Raja Venkatappa Nayak, passed away on Sunday at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 67 years old.
Nayak was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to ill health. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had visited him at the hospital just three days prior to his passing to inquire about his well-being.
Nayak’s sudden demise has come as a shock to the Congress party and the people of Surpur constituency. He was a prominent leader in the region and had served as an MLA for several terms.

Following the news of Nayak’s passing, several political leaders and dignitaries expressed their condolences. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called Nayak a dedicated leader who served the people with utmost sincerity. He added that Nayak’s absence would be deeply felt by the party and the state.
Following the death of the MLA, CM Siddaramaiah said that the session will be adjourned to Wednesday, Monday the session will be adjourned as a mourning of the demise of the MLA, and Tuesday, Rajya Sabha elections scheduled to take place, he said.
