In a shocking incident on August 14, a rabid dog went on a biting spree in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, injuring 17 people, including women and children, within just one hour. CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment when a 22-year-old student, Ashish Yadav, was viciously attacked while talking on his phone outside his home in the Shahpur area.

The surveillance video from Ashish’s residence in Awas Vikas Colony shows the BBA student pacing in front of his house around 9:45 pm when a stray dog suddenly charged at him, baring its teeth. Despite Ashish’s attempts to fend off the dog by backing away and kicking, the aggressive animal continued its relentless attack. The dog first bit him on the leg, causing Ashish to fall to the ground, before leaping up and biting his face. The video captured the aftermath, with Ashish bleeding profusely from his mouth, eyes, and lips.

Following this, the same dog targeted a woman who was standing at her gate after returning home. The animal inflicted deep wounds on her knee and leg, necessitating several stitches. Shortly afterward, two young girls playing outside their home also fell victim to the dog’s attacks.

Ashish’s father, Vijay Yadav, revealed that when he rushed his son to the district hospital for a rabies vaccine, they were informed that the hospital had run out of the necessary shots. Frustrated victims have reported the attacks to the municipal authorities, but no action has been taken to address the increasing threat posed by stray dogs.

Durgesh Mishra, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Gorakhpur, claimed he was unaware of the incident and had not received any complaints. He noted that the municipality regularly conducts sterilization campaigns for stray dogs and is currently constructing an Animal Birth Control Center. Mishra added that they also run awareness campaigns about pet dog vaccinations, while efforts to catch and sterilize stray dogs continue.
