Shiv Sena (UBT) Questions Modi’s Visit to CJI Chandrachud’s Residence During Ganesh Festival
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has raised concerns over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud’s residence during the Ganesh festival, questioning the breach of protocol. In its ‘Saamana’ editorial, the party accused Modi of undermining the judiciary, describing the meeting as controversial, especially with Chandrachud set to retire in November 2024.
The editorial criticized post-retirement benefits for judges who favor the government, alleging that judgments over the last decade have leaned in its favor, despite public expectations of Chandrachud’s independence.
It also pointed to the rejection of petitions related to the impact of EVMs and the failure to control the CBI, accusing the judiciary of enabling the government’s agenda.
