New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Pakistan on October 15-16 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting, marking the first visit by an Indian minister in nine years.

The last visit was by Sushma Swaraj in 2015. Despite strained ties following the Pulwama attack and Pakistan’s opposition to India’s revocation of Article 370, the visit reflects India’s commitment to the SCO. The summit will focus on regional security cooperation. India, a permanent SCO member since 2017, chaired the organisation in 2023, hosting a virtual summit earlier that year.
