Rowdy-Sheeter Status Controversy: BJP Seeks Action Against Yasir Khan Pathan, Writes to ECI
Haveri (Shiggaon): The BJP has filed a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner against Yasir Khan Pathan, the Congress candidate from the Shiggaon-Savanur constituency. BJP election agent S.K. Akki submitted the complaint via email to the Chief Election Commissioner.
Haveri SP Anshukumar has reportedly stated that Congress candidate Yasir Khan Pathan has a “rowdy-sheeter” status. However, Yasir Khan Pathan declared in his election affidavit that there are no cases against him. During the 2023 Assembly election, he had disclosed multiple cases against him. Surprisingly, in the affidavit filed for the current by-election, he has stated that no cases exist against him. Within a year, he has submitted an affidavit claiming no pending cases, the letter stated.
He stated in the letter he also stated that the election officials accepted his nomination without any verification. Haveri District Superintendent of Police has mentioned that cases against Yasir Khan Pathan have not been closed. However, under pressure, it was later stated that all cases were resolved. The conflicting statements from the Haveri SP have raised doubts.
The BJP claims that the Congress candidate has submitted false information, violating the election code of conduct, and misleading the voters of the Shiggaon-Savanur constituency. Therefore, they have requested a thorough investigation and strict action, ensuring a fair and transparent election process in the Shiggaon-Savanur constituency.
The complaint includes copies of Yasir Khan Pathan’s affidavits from the 2023 election and the current by-election. Additionally, a video clip of Haveri SP Anshukumar’s press statement, confirming that Yasir Khan Pathan still holds a “rowdy-sheeter” status, has been attached.
