RLDA Abandons Tender for MTS Colony Land Lease, Congress Claims Success in Land Preservation
Hubballi: The Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) has cancelled tender for grant of lease for mixed (residential and commercial) development of railway land parcel at MTS Colony on Karwar Road in Hubballi for 99 years.
In a press release, RLDA stated that the cancellation is attributed to the lack of interest shown by bidders in the previous five bids. To ensure the proper utilization of the MTS Colony land, the tender has been canceled on administrative grounds, and the feasibility of developing this plot through the self-development model by RLDA will be examined.
Controversy erupted following the news of leasing out prime land belonging to RLDA to private parties for a staggering 99 years. Congress used this as a weapon to target the central government and staged protests.
The party was also planning to intensify the agitation if the tenders were not canceled. The Congress party claims to have achieved victory by saving precious land.
Congress leader Rajat Ullagaddimath attributes RLDA’s decision to cancel the tender to the collective effort and agitation of the Congress party from the block level to the AICC level. He also demands that a well-equipped, sophisticated hospital should be built on this 13 acres of land.
