Rahul Gandhi Praises PM Modi’s Decision to Visit Landslide-Hit Wayanad
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting the landslide-ravaged Wayanad in Kerala. Describing it as a “good decision,” Gandhi voiced confidence that the Prime Minister’s firsthand inspection of the devastation would lead to the tragedy being declared a “national disaster.” In a post on X, Gandhi thanked Modi for taking the time to assess the situation personally.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit Wayanad on Saturday, where he will interact with survivors of the landslide that struck the region last month. His visit will begin with a special flight landing in Kannur, followed by an aerial survey of the affected areas via helicopter. The Prime Minister will also visit relief camps sheltering over 10,000 displaced individuals. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan are expected to accompany him.
Both the state government, led by Vijayan, and the Congress-led Opposition have been urging the Central government to declare the landslide a national calamity. The disaster has already claimed 413 lives, with 152 people still missing. The announcement of Modi’s visit came shortly after Rahul Gandhi’s appeal for national disaster status.
