Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Diagnosed with Leptospirosis
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been diagnosed with leptospirosis, a bacterial infection, according to medical authorities. The condition was confirmed through blood tests after he was initially admitted to the hospital with symptoms of tropical fever.
A health bulletin from Fortis Hospital on Saturday stated that Mann’s vitals are stable, and he is responding well to antibiotic treatment. “As suspected during his admission, tests confirmed leptospirosis, and the chief minister has been placed on the appropriate antibiotics,” the bulletin confirmed.
Leptospirosis, as described by the World Health Organization (WHO), is an infection that can affect both humans and animals, typically contracted through exposure to the urine of infected animals or a contaminated environment. The bacteria enter the human body through skin abrasions or mucous membranes in the eyes, nose, or mouth.
Dr. R K Jaswal, Director and Head of the Cardiology Department at Fortis Hospital, explained that Mann is experiencing significant improvement. His clinical features and test results show positive signs, and his response to treatment has been promising.
Previously, Jaswal noted concerns regarding increased pulmonary artery pressure, which had caused irregular blood pressure. A series of heart-related tests were performed to monitor this condition. However, the latest update indicates Mann is progressing well under medical supervision, with satisfactory improvements in his overall health.
