PM Modi Hails Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic Achievement
Neeraj Chopra, India’s acclaimed javelin thrower, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two consecutive Olympic medals, clinching silver at the Paris Olympics. This extraordinary feat has been met with widespread celebration across India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi among those extending their heartfelt congratulations.
In his message to Chopra, PM Modi said, “Congratulations, Neeraj! You’ve made the nation proud once again. Even at 1 am last night, millions of people were watching you with hope.”
Chopra, reflecting on his performance, mentioned the challenges he faced due to injuries, which impacted his ability to perform at his peak. Despite these hurdles, he expressed satisfaction with securing a medal for his country. “Sport comes with its highs and lows,” he remarked.
Chopra’s silver medal came after a fierce competition, where Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a remarkable throw of 92.97 meters, earning his country’s first individual Olympic gold. Chopra secured his silver with a throw of 89.45 meters in the second round, demonstrating his resilience and skill.
PM Modi also shared his admiration for Chopra on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Neeraj Chopra epitomizes excellence! His consistent brilliance continues to make us proud. India rejoices in his Olympic success, which will inspire countless future athletes to follow their dreams and bring pride to our nation.”
