Ramallah, Palestine: The Palestinian presidency emphasized the necessity of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital for conflict resolution and regional stability.

Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh’s statement on Sunday followed the Israeli government’s unanimous rejection of “unilateral recognition” of a Palestinian state by other nations.

Abu Rudeineh criticized the “extremist and obstinate” Israeli stance and the “contradictory” US position, urging increased Arab and international efforts against aggression. He argued that Israel’s attacks on Palestinian territories wouldn’t bring security.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deemed recognizing a Palestinian state now as a “reward for terrorism,” hindering lasting peace. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry asserted that UN recognition of Palestine required no approval from Netanyahu, accusing him of undermining statehood prospects through annexations and settlement expansions.
