Over 100 Hindu activists, including R. Ashoka, Mahesh Tenginkai, and Bellad, were detained in Hubballi
Hubballi: BJP activists staged a protest in front of the Town Police station in Hubballi, condemning the arrest of Hindu activist Srikanth Poojari. He was arrested in connection with a case related to the 1992 violence that occurred during the Rama Janma Bhoomi protest in Hubballi.
The BJP workers were taken into preventive custody when they attempted to lay siege to the Town police station. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, R. Ashoka, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad, MLA Mahesh Tenginkai, and other prominent leaders were detained and transported by bus to New CAR Ground.
The BJP leaders alleged that the Congress government is targeting Ram Bhakts and Hindus. They argued that the arrest of Srikanth Poojari, three decades after the incident, is a testament to this. They further claimed that the state government is instigating the arrest of an innocent auto driver by the police.
The leaders demanded the immediate suspension of Town Police Inspector MM Tahsildar from service. They warned that if this action was not taken, they would intensify the agitation.
