Hubballi, Karnataka: The North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) is leading the way in digital payments within the state’s transport sector. After introducing a pilot UPI-based ticketing system in the Hubballi-Rural division, NWKRTC has witnessed a significant surge in UPI transactions, indicating a positive shift towards cashless travel.

This innovative program has been well-received by both passengers and staff. Passengers appreciate the convenience and efficiency of cashless transactions, eliminating the need for exact change and streamlining the ticketing process. Additionally, staff benefit from reduced cash handling, leading to smoother operations.

Recognizing the success of the pilot program, the “UPI” scheme was officially inaugurated by the Minister for Transport and Muzrai, Ramalinga Reddy, on February 3rd, 2024, in Gadag. By February 16th, 2024, the system will be rolled out across all 50 NWKRTC units, further expanding the reach of cashless ticketing and its associated benefits.

NWKRTC’s daily revenue has already seen a significant boost, with an estimated Rs. 14 lakhs collected through 15,000 daily transactions. The total collection using UPI has reached a staggering Rs. 3.79 crores from 2.59 lakh transactions since the program’s inception.

To further encourage the adoption of UPI for ticket purchases, NWKRTC will be hosting a “UPI Transaction Fortnight” across all its divisions and units starting from March 3rd, 2024.
