Belagavi: Following a positive response from passengers, the UPI payment system launched by the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has now been expanded to include Belagavi. Initially introduced as a pilot project in a few buses of the Hubballi Rural Division, it has since been extended to all buses.

In an effort to improve comfort and user-friendliness in public transport, the corporation is introducing several initiatives. Aligning with the state and central governments’ push for cashless transactions, the UPI payment system, facilitated through PhonePe Company, began its trial run in buses of the Hubballi Rural 3rd Unit from September 1.

This system has now been extended to Belagavi. Under the new system, each conductor is provided with a dedicated static QR code. The ticket distribution machines used by conductors underwent necessary modifications, accompanied by training sessions for conductors. Passengers can make payments using PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM, PayTM, Amazon Pay, and other UPI applications.

The UPI system has proven to be a game-changer, addressing the change problem, facilitating cashless travel, and saving valuable time. It has received an unexpectedly positive response from both the public and staff. The UPI payment system is now implemented in Belagavi Depot 1 and 3 from Tuesday, as announced by NWKRTC MD Bharat S., who also stated that within a week, all buses in these two depots will offer the UPI payment option.
