NVIDIA President Contradicts US Chip-Making Goals: Highlights Reliance on Global Supply Chain
New York-USA: NVIDIA President, Jensen Huang, stated at The New York Times’ DealBook conference that the United States is realistically two decades away from achieving chip-making self-sufficiency due to the complex global supply chain.
This contradicts the Biden administration’s goal of rapid domestic chip manufacturing growth. Huang emphasized the impracticality of short-term independence and highlighted NVIDIA’s reliance on a diverse supply chain, including Taiwan.
Despite US export restrictions, NVIDIA remains committed to China, its largest chip market. Huang warned of unintended consequences from export restrictions, noting Chinese companies developing competitive technologies.
Balancing business opportunities with national security is a challenge in the semiconductor industry amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
