The Supreme Court on October 4 ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of adulterated ghee in Tirupati laddus, offered at the Lord Venkateswara temple. The SIT, led by the CBI director, will include representatives from the CBI, Andhra Pradesh police, and FSSAI, ensuring scientific scrutiny.

The Court emphasized the need for an independent investigation to maintain public confidence. Allegations of animal fat in the laddus sparked petitions from prominent individuals. The new SIT replaces the previous state-appointed team, with the Court clarifying this decision was not a critique of the existing investigators.
