New Gadigal Eye Clinic Brings Advanced Retinal Imaging to Regional NSW

Sydney Eye Hospital has introduced advanced retinal cameras at the newly established Gadigal Eye Clinic, aiming to improve eye health access for patients in remote and regional areas. This innovative technology enables specialists to deliver detailed diagnoses and treatment plans for individuals in distant locations, such as Moree, where eye assessments can now be conducted without the need for a specialist on-site. Expansion plans are already in place to extend this service to Tamworth in the near future.

A primary goal of the new clinic is to improve access for Aboriginal communities, allowing individuals to receive high-quality eye care within their own communities. The Health Ministry emphasized the significance of this initiative, noting that Aboriginal Australians are statistically three times more likely to experience vision impairment than non-Aboriginal Australians, four times more likely to develop diabetic eye disease, and face a 12-fold risk of blinding cataracts.

Minister for Health, Ryan Park, highlighted the positive impact of the clinic, which will act as a hub for both in-person and virtual care, effectively addressing these health disparities across rural and regional New South Wales.
