MUDA ‘Scam’: Complainant Files Caveat After Governor OKs Siddaramaiah’s Prosecution
Bengaluru: A caveat was filed in the Karnataka High Court on Saturday by one of the complainants in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) ‘scam’ case following Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s decision to permit the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The case centers around allegations that Siddaramaiah misused his position to secure a compensatory land allotment in an upscale area of Mysuru for his wife, Parvathi. Critics argue that the property’s value was significantly higher than that of the original land acquired by MUDA. The opposition has raised concerns, with three activists filing a complaint against Siddaramaiah with the Governor, accusing him of abusing his power.
Siddaramaiah has vehemently denied the accusations, defending the land allotment as a just compensation for his wife. He described the allegations as a politically motivated attempt to undermine the Congress government and oust him from power.
On Saturday, Governor Gehlot sanctioned the prosecution of Siddaramaiah, paving the way for an investigation into the alleged misconduct related to the site distribution. In response, Siddaramaiah is anticipated to challenge or seek a stay on the Governor’s order in the high court. However, the recently filed caveat ensures that the court must consider the complainant’s perspective before making any decisions.
Pradeep Kumar, the complainant who filed the caveat, explained his rationale to the media, stating, “The caveat was necessary because Siddaramaiah might approach the high court for relief. Without the caveat, there’s a risk that he could obtain relief without the court hearing our side. Hence, the caveat was filed.”
As of now, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has not taken any legal action regarding the Governor’s decision. Another complainant, T J Abraham, has announced plans to file his own caveat on Monday, according to a report.
