Mike Lynch’s Body Recovered from Sinking Yacht as Search Continues for Missing Daughter
The body of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch was recovered on Thursday from the wreckage of his family yacht, which sank earlier this week off the coast of Sicily during a violent storm, according to a source involved in the rescue efforts. Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, remains missing, while the bodies of four others who disappeared with the yacht were retrieved on Wednesday.
The British-flagged superyacht, named Bayesian and measuring 56 meters (184 feet), was anchored near the port of Porticello, close to Palermo, when it capsized in minutes due to the severe tempest. At 59 years old, Lynch was a prominent figure in the tech industry and had invited friends aboard to celebrate his recent acquittal in a high-profile fraud case in the U.S.
His remains were brought to shore in a blue body bag and transported to a local hospital morgue. Among the deceased were Judy and Jonathan Bloomer, the non-executive chair of Morgan Stanley International, as well as lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda.
Fifteen individuals, including Lynch’s wife, managed to escape the sinking yacht, while the body of Recaldo Thomas, the onboard chef and a Canadian-Antiguan national, was found in the vicinity hours after the incident.
