Matrimonial Website Scam: Man Duped by Wife’s Hidden Marital History

LUCKNOW: A woman in her early 30s is facing charges for marrying a man without disclosing that she was already married. The man, Parmanand Singh, discovered that his wife had hidden her marital status and had deceived him about her job. They met through a matrimonial website, and after their marriage, another man named Anupam Soni contacted Singh, claiming to be the woman’s husband and threatening him.

Singh revealed that the woman, in addition to concealing her marital history, took money from him under false pretenses. She falsely claimed to be a government college professor on the matrimonial site, asked for Rs 25,000 for a mobile phone, and later said it broke in an accident, which Singh later learned was caused by her previous husband, Anupam. In December 2022, she left with Rs 2.67 lakh in cash and ornaments from Singh’s house.

Singh believes that the woman and her family were aware of his social standing and assets and targeted him from the beginning.
