Major Blaze Erupts at Times Tower in Lower Parel, Mumbai: Fire Brigade Declares Level 2 Emergency
A significant fire has erupted at the Times Tower building in the Kamala Mills compound of Lower Parel, Mumbai, prompting the fire brigade to classify it as a level 2 (major) incident. The blaze broke out around 6:30 a.m. on Friday and has been burning for over two hours, with firefighters working diligently to extinguish it.
No injuries reported in the accident. Initially reported as a seven-story structure, officials later clarified that the building actually has 14 floors. The fire appears to be concentrated in an electric duct located between the 3rd and 7th floors at the rear of the building, which features a glass facade.
To access the building and combat the flames, firefighters employed chisels and hammers to break through locked doors. A total of eight fire engines and various firefighting vehicles have been deployed to the scene.
Residents of the nearby Parkside residential building described the situation as “terrifying,” witnessing thick smoke and flames rising dangerously close to their homes. They reported that their security personnel attempted to contain the fire using the building’s own firefighting equipment before the arrival of the official fire brigade. One resident recounted, “Our emergency team used our hose pipes before the fire brigade could get here.”
The Kamala Mills compound has a history of major fire incidents, raising concerns among local residents regarding safety protocols and emergency preparedness in the area. As the firefighting operation continues, officials are working to bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of the surrounding community.
