LPG Blast: Expert Plastic Surgeon Flown to Hubballi to Treat Burn Patients
Hubballi (Hubli Express News): District-In-Charge Minister Santosh Lad lost his temper during a visit to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI) on Tuesday. The visit was aimed at inquiring about the health of nine Ayyappa Swamy devotees who suffered severe burn injuries in the LPG cylinder blast that occurred on Monday.
When family members of the victims met the minister, they expressed their grievances, alleging inadequate treatment. They urged the minister to bring in specialists or experts from top institutions to provide the best possible care for the patients.
As Minister Lad was preparing to leave, KMCRI Director Dr. S.F. Kammar attempted to speak or clarify something. This prompted an angry response from the minister, who, in a stern tone, said, “He does not know what he is doing. What they need is specialist care for the patients.” The minister then instructed Dr. Kammar to provide an update on the arrangements within two hours.
Following the incident, the Head of the Plastic Surgery and Burns Department, Dr. Ravindra Yaligar, contacted Dr. Smitha Segu, a plastic surgeon from Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute, to seek her expertise. Dr. Segu immediately agreed to assist. Her flight tickets were booked within minutes, and she was expected to arrive at KMCRI by the evening.
When reporters asked Dr. Kammar why external doctors were being summoned, despite having experts at KMCRI, he responded, saying it was akin to seeking a second opinion.
Doctors from SDM Visit KMCRI
Dr. Niranjan Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SDM Medical College and a plastic surgeon, also visited KMCRI to provide advice on patient care. His inputs added valuable expertise to the ongoing treatment efforts.
