Leopard Kills Calf in Dharwad Village
Dharwad, Karnataka: A leopard attacked and killed a calf in Mansur village, Dharwad taluk, in the early hours of Friday. The incident has sparked panic among residents, with reports of leopard sightings near Karnatak University just two days prior.
The leopard targeted a cow tied in an open shed belonging to Kuberappa Madiwal. Alerted by the loud bleating of the calf, Madiwal and his neighbors rushed to the scene. By making loud noises, they managed to scare away the feline predator.
Forest department staff arrived at the location promptly and have launched an operation to capture the elusive leopard. RFO of Dharwad range, Pradeep Pawar, informed that they will set traps using bones to capture the animal and will be intensifying patrolling in the area.
This incident comes on the heels of leopard sightings reported near Karnatak University two days ago. While the department couldn’t locate any pugmarks at the time, the recent attack underscores the need for vigilance.
