The Aam Aadmi Party has raised serious concerns regarding the treatment of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar jail. They allege that Kejriwal, who has Type-2 diabetes, is being deprived of insulin and consultations with his doctor, which are crucial for his health. According to party spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kejriwal’s requests for insulin and access to his family doctor via video conferencing have been consistently denied by the jail authorities.

Bharadwaj stated in a press conference that there appears to be a deliberate attempt to endanger Kejriwal’s life slowly. He cited the Chief Minister’s blood sugar readings in jail as evidence of this alarming situation. Bharadwaj criticized the Tihar administration, BJP, Centre, and Delhi LG for their alleged role in denying Kejriwal the necessary medical assistance. Kejriwal has been dealing with diabetes for over two decades.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing the chief minister, expressed shock and concern over the fact that Kejriwal has not been given insulin to manage his sugar levels since his detention. Singhvi highlighted that despite Kejriwal’s condition, the Enforcement Directorate claimed he was consuming sugary foods like mangoes and sweets regularly, possibly to build a case against him. Kejriwal, however, defended his dietary choices, stating they were in line with his doctor’s recommendations.

Singhvi informed the court that Kejriwal was allowed to use a machine in jail to monitor his blood sugar levels daily. Bharadwaj concluded by alleging that there is a larger conspiracy at play to undermine Kejriwal’s health, potentially leading to multiple organ damage. He expressed concerns that upon his release from jail, Kejriwal may require extensive medical treatment for kidney, heart, and other organs.
