Karnataka Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Widespread Showers

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 7-day rainfall forecast for Karnataka, predicting widespread precipitation across the state from October 11-17, 2024.

According to the detailed district-wise forecast, most regions are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, with some areas facing the possibility of heavy downpours. The probability of rainfall is categorized as “very likely” for all districts throughout the forecast period.

Coastal Karnataka, including districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, is expected to see consistent light to moderate rainfall. The forecast indicates a possibility of widespread rainfall (FWS) in these coastal areas by Day 5 of the forecast period.

Interior Karnataka is likely to experience more varied weather conditions. Several districts, including Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Hassan, are forecasted to have light to moderate rainfall (L/M) with occasional heavy spells, particularly in the first half of the week.

The state capital, Bengaluru (both rural and urban areas), along with surrounding districts like Kolar, Mandya, and Tumakuru, may see heavy rainfall (H) on Day 5, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (ISL R+) possible on Days 5 and 6.

Of particular note, the IMD has warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka from October 11 to October 14, 2024. A similar alert has been issued for North Interior Karnataka from October 11 to October 14, 2024.

Farmers and residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions. Local authorities are expected to be on alert, particularly in areas prone to flooding or landslides during heavy rainfall events.
