JSW Renew Energy Inks 300 MW Solar PPA in Karnataka: Energy Minister K J George
Bengaluru, EXPRESS News: JSW Renew Energy Twenty Ltd, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) for a 300 MW solar project awarded by Karnataka Solar Power Development (KSPDCL), announced Energy Minister K J George.
The 300 MW solar project will be developed at the Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka, one of India’s largest solar parks. The PPA has been finalized for a power supply until FY 2044 at a tariff of Rs 2.89 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) The project is slated for commissioning within the next 18 months, reinforcing Karnataka’s commitment to enhancing its renewable energy capacity and achieving its clean energy goals.
Energy Minister K J George welcomed the development, stating, “This agreement with JSW Renew Energy Twenty Ltd marks a significant step forward in our pursuit of a sustainable and green future for Karnataka. The 300 MW solar capacity addition will bolster our state’s energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to India’s renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030. We are committed to fostering a conducive environment for renewable energy investments, ensuring affordable and clean power for all.”
Karnataka is the first in southern state in the country to notify a renewable energy policy in 2009 itself. The state government is focusing on increasing the share of renewable energy in the power generation sector, thereby generating more employment in the state. The state is attracting huge investment in the green energy sector due to its emphasis on energy conservation, clean and green energy initiatives. Hence, we are now seeing the results of the renewable energy policy,” George said.
