Hubballi: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), once known for its commendable work, seems to be slipping back into troubled waters. A recent incident has raised serious concerns about the quality of care and responsiveness at the hospital.

A young cancer patient’s family alleges that their 13-year-old son faced unnecessary delays in receiving treatment at KIMS. According to the father and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders who intervened on their behalf, the family struggled for over six hours just to get the boy admitted.

Their attempts to reach the Director, both via calls and a visit to his office, proved futile. The absence of a Medical Superintendent only added to their frustration. The family claims they were also met with limited assistance from the Resident Medical Officer (RMO), leaving the boy stuck in an ambulance for an agonizing wait.

The boy, transferred from the Karnataka Cancer Therapy and Research Centre in Navanagar, arrived at KIMS around 10:00 AM. Despite their urgent situation, the family reportedly faced bureaucratic hurdles that delayed his admission.

AAP leaders present at the hospital noticed the family’s plight and stepped in to help. However, their efforts, including trying to reach the unresponsive Director, yielded little progress.

Finally, at around 5:30 PM, the Director answered their calls and instructed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to admit the boy immediately. However, even by 6:00 PM, the family alleges that treatment for the young boy hadn’t begun.
