Iran Allegedly Sends Ballistic Missiles to Russia Amid Ukraine Conflict
Iran has reportedly sent ballistic missiles to Russia to support its ongoing war in Ukraine, despite multiple warnings from U.S. and European officials against such actions. Sources familiar with the situation indicated that Washington has briefed its allies on the evidence of this missile transfer, which could lead to further sanctions against Tehran from the U.S. and the European Union.
While Iran has already been accused of supplying Russia with hundreds of drones during its lengthy conflict with Ukraine, the delivery of ballistic missiles represents a significant escalation in their support for Moscow. The U.S. National Security Council did not respond to requests for comments on the matter.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the transfer of the missiles, while Bloomberg noted that European officials had anticipated this development was imminent.
In response to the allegations, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations stated that the country’s stance on the Ukraine conflict has not changed and that it does not provide military assistance to any of the warring parties. Iran emphasized that supplying military aid leads to more casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and hinders ceasefire negotiations, calling such actions inhumane. Furthermore, Iran has urged other nations to stop supplying weapons to those involved in the conflict.
This situation highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics at play as Iran continues to navigate its relationships with both Russia and Western powers amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
