LONDON: International students, including Indians, unfairly accused of cheating in English language tests in the UK, are developing a TV drama pitch inspired by the ITV series ‘Mr Bates vs the Post Office.’

The drama aims to shed light on their decade-long struggle for justice. In 2014, the Home Office revoked visas for 35,000 students after allegations of cheating surfaced.

Despite some leaving the country, many protested flawed evidence, leading to homelessness, legal challenges, and health issues. Migrant Voice, a charity supporting these students, is collaborating to document their stories and gain public and political attention.

Abdul Qadir Mohammad, a victim of the scandal, spent over £20,000 attempting to clear his name, facing debt and panic attacks. Navjot Kaur, another student, plans to turn her experience into a drama, emphasizing the injustice suffered by thousands.

Recent evidence challenging the Home Office’s actions has been presented in court, and students previously petitioned Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for help. The TV drama aims to amplify their voices and garner support for their cause.
