As the festive season approaches, Indian Railways is set to operate nearly 6,000 special trains to accommodate the travel needs of over one crore passengers heading home for Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festivals.

In addition to the special trains, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that 108 regular trains have been equipped with additional general coaches to manage the increased demand. Moreover, 12,500 coaches have been approved to handle the festival rush.

Key routes to states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal are known for experiencing a significant surge in passenger traffic during these festive periods.

The minister said 5,975 special trains have been scheduled this year, an increase from the 4,429 trains operated during last year’s festive season.

“This initiative will help over one crore passengers reach their homes during the busy festival period,” he said.

With Durga Puja beginning on October 9, Diwali on October 31, and Chhath Puja on November 7-8, the railways are preparing to ensure smooth travel during the festive rush.
