Insights on the 2024 Rankings
The World’s Best Companies 2024 list is determined through a comprehensive analysis based on three key metrics: employee satisfaction, revenue growth, and sustainability.
TIME noted, “Companies like Apple, Microsoft, and BMW are prioritizing their employees’ well-being, which has significantly contributed to their high rankings in a new statistical assessment of 1,000 top global companies conducted by Statista and TIME.”
Microsoft, ranked third, received high marks in employee satisfaction, placing second only to Alphabet, the parent company of Google. The tech firm aims to cultivate an environment where employees feel “energized and empowered to engage in meaningful work,” a strategy that has proven effective in maintaining employee satisfaction and driving revenue growth. In the latest fiscal year, Microsoft reported revenues of $88 billion, a 22% increase from the previous year.
Apple also performed strongly in employee satisfaction, ranking fourth overall, but secured the top position due to its exceptional environmental, social, and governance (ESG) rating. The company is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and is increasing the use of recycled materials in its products. Notably, in early 2024, Apple became the first major tech firm to achieve gender parity on its board, which consists of four men and four women.
While tech companies occupied six of the top 20 slots and four of the top 10, BMW Group, a German automotive manufacturer, secured fourth place. Accenture, the Dublin-based consulting firm, excelled across all three evaluation categories and ranked second overall. Accenture’s CEO, Julie Sweet, was recognized on TIME’s 2024 TIME100 list, with Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, highlighting the company’s positive societal impact through technology in addressing critical global issues.
