ICMR Alert: Deadly Adenovirus Variant Strikes Children in West Bengal
The ICMR has issued a warning to West Bengal’s health department regarding a dangerous adenovirus variant affecting children in Kolkata and nearby districts.
Out of 3,115 individuals tested, 1,257 were positive, including 40 with the deadly variant, predominantly children. West Bengal recorded 1,200 adenovirus cases and 19 deaths from December 2022 to March 2023, sparking controversies over death figures.
The state government formed an eight-member task force then, and the recent alert prompts the health department to take necessary precautions. Adenovirus poses a significant threat, demanding vigilant measures to address the emergent situation.
