ICG Helicopter Makes Emergency Sea Landing During Crew Rescue Off Porbandar

An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), which was dispatched late Monday night at 11 PM to evacuate a critically injured crew member from the Indian-flagged motor tanker Hari Leela, was forced to make an emergency landing at sea.

While one crew member has been rescued, efforts are ongoing to locate three others. The ICG has mobilized four ships and two aircraft to assist in the search and rescue operation.

Notably, this same helicopter was previously used to evacuate 67 individuals stranded during the recent floods in Gujarat. The motor tanker was located 45 kilometers off the coast of Porbandar when the incident occurred.

On September 2, 2024, the @IndiaCoastGuard ALH helicopter was deployed at 2300 hours to evacuate an injured crew member from the Motor Tanker Hari Leela near Porbandar, Gujarat. The helicopter made an emergency landing at sea, with one crew member recovered so far. The search for the remaining crew members continues. The helicopter’s deployment was in response to a distress call from the vessel’s Master.
