Hyderabad: Couple Lived With Deceased Son’s Body for Days
Hyderabad: In a heart-wrenching incident in Nagole, Hyderabad, a visually impaired elderly couple, K. Ramanna, 65, and Shanti Kumari, 60, unknowingly stayed beside their deceased son’s body for nearly four days before it was discovered by local police on October 28, 2024. The tragic situation came to light when neighbors in the Blinds Colony detected a foul odor emanating from the couple’s home and alerted authorities.
Nagole Police Inspector A. Surya Nayak recounted that when officers arrived, they found the couple in a semi-conscious state. Shanti Kumari, lying weakly in her bedroom, was still calling out for her son, 30-year-old K. Pramod, unaware that he had passed away in his sleep days prior. The parents, entirely dependent on Pramod for basic needs, had not eaten or had water for days, thinking perhaps he had left the house temporarily.
Police noted that Pramod’s body, which had begun decomposing, was sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Preliminary reports suggest Pramod might have passed due to health complications. An official investigation has been opened.
Pramod had reportedly struggled with alcoholism, which had caused his wife to leave him a year ago, further intensifying his family’s dependency on him. After police intervention, the couple was provided with food and water, their condition now being stabilized. Authorities have contacted the couple’s elder son, who lives in another part of the city, and they are now under his care. Additionally, police are considering transferring the couple to an old-age home where they can receive the necessary support and medical attention.
